Mike Gunning
Senior Managing Director
Mike Gunning is Senior Managing Director at Generational and brings more than 25
years of experience in finance, investing, and business leadership. Prior to joining
Generational, he spent over two decades in institutional investing, including 20 years
as a senior trader at a multi-billion-dollar hedge fund, where he worked closely with the
firm’s founder and played a key role in investment research, risk management, and
high-pressure decision-making.
Over the course of his career, Mike has researched and analyzed hundreds of businesses
across a broad range of industries, developing a deep understanding of the financial,
operational, and strategic factors that drive business value. His background in capital markets
and macroeconomic analysis enables him to view companies through the same lens as
sophisticated investors and acquirers, providing business owners with valuable insight into how
buyers assess opportunities.
Mike is passionate about helping business owners maximize the value of what they have built
while identifying an exit strategy that aligns with their financial objectives, personal priorities,
and legacy goals. He is known for simplifying complex issues, asking thoughtful questions, and
building trusted relationships that help owners and entrepreneurs navigate one of the most
important decisions of their lives.
Mike earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Stetson University,
graduating summa cum laude and ranking first in the School of Business. He completed CFA
Level I and previously served as Chairman of the Board of Trinity Fitness, a nonprofit
organization dedicated to strengthening individuals physically, mentally, and spiritually.
