Welcome to 2021!

Now that we have put 2020 behind us and the unprecedented challenges we all faced, we look forward to a New Year, one that will most likely still hold hurdles to overcome, but also new hope for a speedy economic recovery.

I often find inspiration from great leaders, folks that truly give us insights and strategies to continue moving forward no matter the hurdles we may face. One of the finest articles I have read the last few weeks comes to us from the CEO of Vistage, Mr. Sam Reese. As many of you know, Vistage is the largest CEO coaching and peer advisory organization for small and midsize businesses in the world (Generational and Vistage have a national strategic alliance).

Because of his extensive career as a business leader, Sam has experienced and gained a great deal of knowledge over the years. He shared some really valuable insights on what we learned in 2020 in this article:

The entire article is well worth your time to read it. One of his points really had significant meaning to me:

Over the past year, many leaders have had to innovate and overcome extraordinary challenges just to stay afloat. While many faced the obvious challenges brought on by the pandemic, others identified internal, operational and fiscal obstacles of which they weren’t aware. Leaders have learned to be flexible in order to meet customers’ changing needs, adapted to working virtually and pivoted along the way. The most successful leaders have quickly determined what their company’s pain points have been and leveraged those to guide the path forward.

This paragraph held special meaning to me for two reasons:

  • The inspiration I drew throughout 2020 watching our amazing clients adapt and overcome some seemingly impossible odds.
  • The excellent service the Generational team of professionals provided despite some very, very challenging situations (our deal teams became experts in buyer meetings and closing deals via Zoom!)

I hope you find Sam’s article as insightful and inspiring as I did.
