Middle-Market Foreign Investment Growing Within the U.S.

Foreign direct investment (FDI) in businesses within the United States is growing substantially, and the state of California is one of the largest beneficiaries of the trend. Stats show that California’s FDI employment has grown by 5.2 per cent over the last five years.

This means that there is plenty of opportunity for mid-market owners who are looking to sell or expand their businesses. Terry Mackin, Managing Director of Generational Equity, debunked the myth that foreign investors are only seeking large acquisitions. He spoke to PR Newswire of the trend saying “according to the Organization for International Investment, 57% of FDI firms have less than 1,000 employees and 39% have fewer than 100 employees.”

With this trend towards foreign investors within the United States likely to continue, it is important to consider that foreign buyers will expect a business to be ready for sale before making a serious offer. Recasting financials is one way to attract foreign direct investment.
